2009

I’ve still not managed to get my “designerd” side from taking over my waking life, but the good news is, some good things are coming of it: my work has been prominently featured in the VGKids sample hook-up, and I was just featured in a special issue of idN magazine.

Will have a piece included in Stoked Mentoring’s “I ‘Heart’ LA” show in southern California this spring.

Just sent off a submission to Pedro Sarmiento’s Common Underground project. CU pairs nations of the world with a prevalent social issue, and artists create an educational poster that will be exhibited at CIFO during the NWSA 2009 BFA Exhibition in Miami. There will also be a book published in conjuntion with the project. Look for each of these later on in the year.

Portfolio section is back up with some newer stuff and a lot less of the old. Been just swamped in on the design front and with teaching two classes simultaneously for the first time, so not being as prolific as I had hoped thus far in '09. New 3-D paintings are in the works... will post some pics as I actually get closer to finishing one.

Will have a couple of pages in the next installment of The Brothers Washburn's Color Ink Book which should be out in time for WonderCon.

Some of my design work will be featured in idN's first special edition book of the year, a retrospective of the Adobe Cut & Paste tournament. (I competed in Sept. ’07 at the Yerba Buena Center in San Francisco.) The book will look at the different participants' creative process, from infuences to sketches to finished product.

2008

This year has been pretty light on the show schedule, mostly by choice. Been super busy on the design side of things, but have popped up now and again in group shows, mostly here locally. I plan to hit things hard again in 2009. In the meantime, come see me, Skinner, Sandoer and more at our big ol' booth at this year's APE-Con in San Francisco in November.

AVMJ Accepted Into PCMA 2007 Biennial Abide Visuals' work on Weird Forest Records' Virgin Passwords split 12" has been accepted to the upcoming California Design Biennial 2007 at the Pasadena Museum of California Art. After having received over 500 entries this year — and the jury deliberating for close to a month — it was decided that the design "is a perfect example of the innovation and creativity that we set out to highlight in this exhibition." Exhibition opening on the evening of August 18, 2007. PMCA SITE

APE Con small press expo. AVMJ posted up for the weekend of April 21-22 with Skinner and Sandoer from Shindou Arts promoting Exit Strategy. The event this year absolutely smoked last year's... so much energy and enthusiasm from vendors and attendees. Great to see Jose Cabrera and Scott Barry again from last year, as well as reconnecting with Brian Ewing, David Choong Lee and Attaboy.
